Racism in football, a very ugly propaganda indeed, has been further looked into by FIFA and stricter punishment has been introduced.
FIFA has doubled its minimum ban for racist indeed for 10 games and will allow players to make victim statements and participate in the proceedings. FIFA has clearly stated that the will not let down victims of racist abuse, so as to directly stop the issue of racism in football and also in general. The FIFA's disciplinary committee will permit the victim to make a statement allowing the latter to participate in the proceedings.
This stricter punishment for racist behaviour was introduced by FIFA due to high profile incidents last season in domestic and international football. Some of this high profile incidents includes:
* Racism on kalidou koulibaly by the inter-milan supporters who made monkey noises directly towards him, during the match held between Napoli vs Inter-milan. Although inter-milan were punished by playing their next two home matches without their fans and a third game with a portion of the stadium closed as punishment for their fans racially abusing a french born senegal defender kalidou koulibaly.
* Racism against england team by the montenegro supporters during a match against England vs Montenegro. Also punishment was been allocated to montenegro which was to play a home game behind close doors.
* Racism against Moise Kean a juventus striker by the cagliari fans during the match between Juventus vs Cagliari.
Due to most of this ugly incidence of racist abuse in football, FIFA has decided to implement stricter punishment on racist abuse. The updated FIFA code expands the scope of what is considered discriminatory behaviour to anything related to "race, skin, colour, ethnic, national or social origin, gender, disability, language, religion etc.
A match will be forfeitedby the team if their supporters are found to be guilty of racist and other discriminatory behaviour.
"for a first offence, the team found guilty will ought to play a match with limited number of spectators and a fine of at least $20,220 shall be imposed on the club.
"Unless there are exceptional circumstances, if a match is abandoned by the referee because of racist/ discriminatory conduct, the match shall be declared forfeited. The match can be forfeited after the referee has applied a " three steps procedures for the incidence.
This includes requesting a public announcement to call for such behaviour to be stopped immediately, suspending the match until it stops and in critical scenerios abandoning the match altogether.
The updated code also includes the option of imposing transfer bans on clubs which defaults on debts in cases processed by FIFA and the court of Arbitration for sport(CAS).
All this stricter punishment imposed presently by FIFA, will see no doubt of reducing drastically racism in football, which will help move football to a greater height both to the players and the fans.
